Clif Bar & Company issued a recall of some of its products on Thursday after an ingredient supplier, SunOpta, distributed sunflower kernels that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause listeriosis (commonly called listeria), a serious infection characterized by fever, muscle aches, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal symptoms. Listeria is sometimes fatal in young children, the frail and elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
This recall is being issued as a precaution. To date, no illnesses linked to the products have been reported.
