Our New Local Fish is Here and It’s Amazing

There’s a new haddock in town, and our loyal seafood shoppers adore it already. Here are four reasons why you’re going to think this fish is so awesome:

— 1 —
Co-op seafood buyer Greg Marsh says it is.

— 2 —
It’s the first cooperatively sourced seafood we’ve EVER offered!

— 3 —
It’s local. Brought to us by the NH Community Seafood cooperative in Portsmouth.

— 4 —
It’s wild-caught! From the rich waters of the Gulf of Maine.

What is This Fabulous Seafood Cooperative?

Fun fact: We’ve always worked with local seafood distributors. They bring us the finest farm-raised and wild-caught seafood from Chile to Norway. But a local fish from a seafood cooperative is a first for us.

NH Community Seafood is a multi-stakeholder cooperative of boats from Seabrook, Hampton, Rye Harbor, and Portsmouth Harbor. The co-op’s mission is to offer consumers the finest sustainable seafood while fishing selectively to preserve stocks and protect marine resources. Most of the catch is wild-caught from a legendary New England fishery—the Gulf of Maine and surrounding waters.

More to Come

Our seafood teams spent 2+ years working to bring this high-quality haddock to our shoppers. The pandemic put the project on hold, so we’re thrilled to be able to offer it now. More options are coming soon, including other sustainable species of fish and shellfish.

Serving Tip

Try the haddock and tell us what you think! Our chefs recommend a haddock stew or seafood chowder while the spring weather is still nice and cool. Baked haddock more your style? Try this recipe, suggested by our friends at NH Community Seafood.
