Help Keep the Soil in Organic! Join the Rally Oct 15

A few weeks ago, I had an enlightening email conversation with Peter Whoriskey, a reporter for the Washington Post. Peter covers business, healthcare, and health for the Post, and was recognized with a National Press Foundation award in 2011 and a Polk Award in 2013. In recent years, he’s broken several huge stories about the organics industry and the weakening standards of the organics label.

“Unfortunately, there appears to be good reason for consumers to wonder about the integrity of the label,” Peter told me in an email. “ … I think there’s evidence out there to suggest that the USDA hasn’t put enough thinking or resources out there to ensure that the ‘USDA Organic’ label means what it promises.”

Want to fight for the integrity of the organics label? Now is your chance!

Keep The Soil In Organic Rally Oct 15

On Sunday, October 15th, farmers and activists will assemble in Hanover, NH, for a Rally to Keep the Soil in Organic. The rally is one of many organized this year to oppose the weakening of the USDA labeling standards.

Rallies have been organized in England, Canada, Costa Rica, and across the United States. The final rally will take place at the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) meeting on October 31 in Jacksonville, Florida.

A tractor cavalcade will depart Hanover High School at 2 p.m. Sunday, marching down Main Street for a rally on the Dartmouth Green. The event will feature speeches, delicious food, live music, and a family-fun celebration.
