Food Club Water Recall

Food Club brand water, a generic bottled water supplied by Spring Hill Dairy Farm, is being recalled in the wake of multiple reports that Spring Hill Dairy Farm’s water is tainted with PFAS, a group of synthetic chemicals that have been linked to cancer, liver damage, and other serious health concerns. Spring Hill Dairy Farm is a Haverhill, Massachusetts-based company that provides bottled water under a variety of different brands and labels for grocery stores throughout New England.

PFAS–or perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances–are man-made chemicals found in a wide variety of different products, including food packaging and household cleaners. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, certain types of PFAS, particularly perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), do not break down in the environment or in the human body. Studies have linked the chemicals to cancer, liver damage, immune system dysfunction, decreased fertility, and developmental problems in children.

The Massachusetts Department of Health and Human Services advises that pregnant women, nursing mothers, and infants should not drink any water supplied by Spring Hill Dairy Farm. The company supplies store-branded bottled water to many stores throughout New England, including Shaw’s, Whole Foods, Cumberland Farms, CVS, Best Yet, 365, IGA, HyTop, Stop & Shop, and Food Club.
