Join Us for the Lebanon Co-op Birthday Celebration Friday

Dear Co-op Members and community,

This Friday, our Co-op is honoring a very special birthday. A key member of our Co-op team is turning 20, and we’re inviting everyone to come and take part in the celebration. The team member? Our Lebanon store.

Our Lebanon Co-op is the primary source of food for thousands of people in the Upper Valley and beyond. It enriches the local economy by providing good jobs and benefits for a lot of dedicated people, and by providing a market for hundreds of local and regional farmers and food producers. The store is also home to some of our biggest community events, and collects tons of non-perishable foods for our friends at Listen Community Services each year. By any measure, this is a unique place, one that occupies an important role in the Upper Valley community. Earlier this year, we signed a new lease that will preserve the store’s home in the Centerra Marketplace for decades to come, so this is a great year to honor its storied history and contributions to our community.

Whether you’re a Lebanon Co-op shopper or not, we invite you to join us on Friday from 10-6 and enjoy our store’s unique sense of community. We’ll be celebrating with a special program of events, food samples, a 20 percent discount, and of course, birthday cake.

Of course, we all know the store itself is just a building. It’s the staff, members, and shoppers who have always made our Lebanon Co-op so special. The store opened to great fanfare on an October day in 1997. In our archives, there are hundreds of tattered black-and-white photos of employees, members, and board members standing outside in a light October rain to welcome the store’s new shoppers. The curious new shoppers soon became regulars, and the store took off. On Friday, we hope to recreate, as best we can, the same celebratory spirit of that opening day. (And this time, hopefully there will be no rain!)

If you’ve never been to the store before, come and discover what makes it so special. If you’re a long-time shopper, come and rediscover why it’s been such a valued part of the Upper Valley for so long. I’ll be there, along with board members and employees from throughout our Co-op. We look forward to seeing you there and serving you at our Lebanon Co-op for many more birthdays to come.
