Join us Sept 29–Oct 1 for one of our most popular events of the year.
Think some Super Duper Val-U Club Mart invented the case discount? No way, people! The Co-op was doing case discounts long before they were cool. We’ve been ordering great stuff by the case since 1936, and we celebrate that storied history every year with our fall Case Lot sale.
This year as usual, we’ll be discounting the case prices on hundreds of items, including your favorite food, household, and pet products. People come from all over to stock up on all the deals. We’ll even load your car! We look forward to seeing you there.

Why We Totally Love the Case Lot Sale
Like most things at the Co-op, there’s a cool story behind the Case Lot sale.
Spirited farmers formed the first American cooperatives in the late 18th century, mostly as noble, but failed, experiments. Purchasing co-ops, marketing co-ops, and cheese-making co-ops soon followed suit, all ending in the same result. The story was always the same: Visionaries would form cooperatives in the hopes of securing greater economic clout for their members, but eventually fail due to insufficient capital, poor management, and lack of understanding about the cooperative principles and organizational structures.
Then a resurgence of the cooperative model in the early 1900s took hold, finding its footing in the Great Depression. In January of 1936, our co-op was born.
Our founders planted the seeds for the first successful consumer cooperative in the United States. There were no multiple retail locations, no online channels, no social media outlets.
There was only one simple concept that started it all: products by the case.
It was winter, and a worldwide economic depression made staple items particularly hard to acquire. A few industrious Dartmouth College professors and their spouses banded together to form a co-op and put in bulk orders for citrus, potatoes, and maple syrup. They also arranged for discounts on gasoline, fuel oil, and coal.
By ordering what they needed by the case, our founders launched an idea we still honor today. And every fall, one of the ways we celebrate Co-op Month is to honor our founders’ courage and vision with our annual Case Lot sale.
It wouldn’t be much of a party without you! See you at the Case Lot sale Sept 26–Oct 2. Got a question in the meantime? We’d love to hear from you. Email firstname.lastname@example.org.
